Attendance

Excuses for absences and late arrivals must be called in to the office, 480-839-3402 x. 340, no later than 8:30am.  You may also email attendance related issues to Mrs. Hicks, lhicks@tempeprep.org.  It is important to leave the reason for absence/lateness and illness symptoms, if any.  Students will be recorded as having an unexcused absence if no message is left or sign themselves in late without a parent call or signed note. Student given excuses will not accepted.

Tempe Prep recognizes that a student may be late on occasion due to transportation problems or a family emergency. Students who are late to school must report to the office for a late pass to be admitted to class.  1st period begins at 8:00am, students are to be in their seat by 8:05am.  Students entering class at 8:06am will be sent to the office for a tardy pass. Tardiness due to medical appointments or to circumstances beyond a family's/driver's control will be excused. (The Headmaster will determine whether tardiness is excused, if a question arises.)

Persistent tardiness interrupts the instruction and undermines the morale that are of benefit
to all students and families. On the third occasion that a student is tardy in a quarter, a detention
slip will be issued to the student. Of course, arrival at school after first hour will also be counted as tardiness. For each subsequent tardy in the quarter, another detention will be issued. When a
student has received four detentions for tardiness in a quarter then he or she may be suspended from school for a duration determined by the Headmaster.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep accurate  procedures and records.

Parking Lot Procedures

When dropping off students before school, please pull all the way forward to the STOP sign to reduce the number of students needing to walk through the parking lot.

When picking up your students after school, please only enter the Pick Up Lane if your child is ready to load into your car. Drivers in the Pick Up Lane must pull forward whenever the car in front of them pulls forward. Please do NOT park in the lane and wait for your child. Please wait for your child in a parking space. All parked or stopped cards must use a parking space. Please do not leave your car unattended in the Pick Up Lane for any reason.

Please also keep the No Stopping Lane clear for through traffic. When cars are lined up in the Pick Up Lane or the No Stopping Lane, other drivers are stuck on Southern Avenue with no room to pull into the parking lot. This can be dangerous for our drivers and also impedes traffic on Southern Avenue. We appreciate your cooperation.

Please follow the diagram.  And please DO NOT pick up or drop off students on Dorsey Lane.

Junior High PE Requirement

Participation in extra-curricular athletics is required of all students in grades 6, 7 & 8. Such
activity develops traits of teamwork, leadership, and discipline that can pay dividends in academic endeavors, as well. Participation also offers great opportunities to develop strong friendships with classmates. Each junior high student is required to engage in at least one season of a sport, and there are numerous sports from which to choose at TPA. Although we highly encourage each student to fulfill this requirement at school, in the case where a student participates in athletic activity outside of school (e.g., Little League, club soccer, a swimming team), the family may substitute that activity for a sport at TPA. The family must request a waiver from the front office, and the director/coach of that activity must verify that the student's participation amounts to 60 hours of athletic activity.  Please note, the activity must be in an organized sport.  Parent supervised exercise will not be accepted for PE credit.

Limited Roster Policy for Sports

The TPA athletic limited roster policy applies to Seniors trying out for varsity team sports (football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball) in which there are multiple levels of competition (Freshman/JV/Varsity) and the need to limit a team roster.  On teams in which there is ONLY a varsity team, the limited roster policy is not in place. In any season when a limited roster policy is in place, the Athletic Department will provide an alternate sport for the 12th grader to participate in, which there will be NO limits on rosters in place.

The policy is only to be in place as long as the AIA bylaws state that 12th graders cannot play on Junior Varsity teams in the Conference in which we have been placed. No players that wish to participate on a high school team and abide by all TPA Handbook and individual sports handbook policies can be dismissed before their Senior year.

Incoming seniors are allowed to participate in summer camps, open gyms and tournaments the summer before their senior year in order to continue to advance their skills. Any limits, if necessary, will be done after a pre-determined tryout schedule that will be communicated prior to the first day of tryouts. The coaching staff will then determine placement of all players on teams: Freshman (if applicable), Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Any limit to rosters, if necessary, will be handled individually by the head coach with sensitivity and compassion. They will not post lists, but rather, talk personally with each athlete and emphasize their strengths, discuss needed areas of improvement, and indicate that athlete's status with regard to the team and program. All dismissals will be discussed with the Athletic Director prior to the discussion with the athlete. A minimum number of roster spots will be determined by the Head Coach and Athletic Director before the first day of tryouts. This number must be communicated clearly to all players and parents before tryouts begin. The coach may NOT go below this minimum number on the roster, but may go over.

Any 12th grader not named to the varsity team in that particular sport will be offered a Student Manager position (up to 4 positions would be available in all team sports, 5 for volleyball). Those positions will include: videographer, statistician, facilities manager, scorekeeper (2 for volleyball). Should that student choose to fulfill one of those positions as a Student Manager, they will be required to adhere to all Student Manager policies as set forth by the Athletic Handbook and Head Coach. They will attend all games, including travel with the team. If all duties are performed in accordance with the Athletic Handbook and Team Handbook, that student is eligible to letter in that sport as Student Manager.

This limited roster policy will begin for the 2010-2011 school year and be included in the Athletic Handbook and any team handbook in which there are multiple levels of competition.

Book Deposits and Class Fees

In the past, students were charged $35 per book and then they also were assessed a deposit for any language books or music cds.  This was credited back at the end of each year and then reassessed the following year.  Based on parent suggestions, we have revised the policy this year.  As a student enters junior high or high school they will be assessed a flat fee of $180 and $160 respectively.  That will remain on their account for the balance of their junior high or high school years.  When they “graduate” junior high,  the book deposit will be credited to their account (less lost/damaged fees) to pay the high school deposit.  When they graduate high school, or withdraw, the book deposit will be credited back to their account and refunded.

Class fees range from $65 to $95 with graduation and Senior Trip Fees billed separately.  If you have any questions regarding your student fees please contact bwhite@tempeprep.org.

Fundraising with Fry's cards

Raise Funds for your Student’s Fees and for TPA:

Use a Fry’s Rechargeable Gift Card when Shopping at Fry’s!

  • Obtain a gift card that is linked to TPA (you can get one from Lori Beene, ldbeene@cox.net, 480-730-6920) Put money on the card.  You can do this with cash, a check, or your favorite credit card at the customer service desk or with a cashier before they ring up your order. When you pay for your groceries, prescriptions, gas, other stores’ gift cards, or cup of coffee, just swipe the gift card to pay for your order.  The balance remaining on the card will be shown on the bottom of your receipt and can be used on subsequent shopping trips. Add money as needed to the card.  You can add a little each time or as much as $500. Twice a year, Fry’s sends a rebate check to the school – the amount of the check is based on the cumulative amount reloaded to the cards.  During the past 2 six-month periods our school has earned the maximum of 6%.  When this check is received, 60% of the rebate earned will be credited to your child’s fee account at the school, 40% will go into the TPA general fund.  The credit that goes to your student’s account can be used to pay class fees, sports fees, speech and debate, Cantamus, etc.  Over $12,000 has been earned on this program just since February of 2009.  The amount that ban be earned is unlimited and is dependent entirely upon our participation. Get a card for your family and friends so they can help earn funds for your student also.  The cards can be used at any Kroger store in the nation (which includes Ralph’s, Fred Meyer, Smiths and others) The gift cards can be used to purchase gift cards sold by Fry’s to other retailers such as Home Depot, Target, Starbucks, AMC, etc… There is a partial list below.  Give these other gift cards as gifts or plan ahead and do your shopping with them. The program runs year-round, you never need to get a new card, just keep refilling and using this one.  The card will expire if you leave a $0 balance on it for more than 60 days – if it does, just get a new one from Lori.  It will never expire if there is money on it.
  • The card you have been given has a unique serial number on the back.  We have recorded which family has which card by serial number.  If you lose this card, get a new one from Lori and we will update our records.

This program costs nothing; it just gives some of your grocery dollars to your student’s account and to the school.  This is a great opportunity offered to our community, and the more people that participate, the greater the benefit.

The fine print:  These cards are just like cash, do not lose them.  When your child leaves the school, the amount earned cannot be refunded to you and as such, if your child is no longer enrolled when the rebate check is received by the school, the full amount of the rebate will be credited to the school’s general fund.  The amount earned can be used for any of your children.  These funds can be used to pay for any of your child’s future fees – please do not leave unpaid fees sitting in your account waiting for the rebate check.  Pay the fees as they come due, the rebate will post to your child’s account when it comes in and it can pay fees that hit later.

Please call or e-mail Lori Beene if you have any questions.  480-730-6920 or ldbeene@cox.net

Use this program to pay for your groceries to earn funds for the general fund and your student’s account AND register your VIP card to participate in the cool cash program which benefits the PO.Below is a list of gift cards that can be purchased at Fry's through the rechargable Fry's gift card.
