Teaching is far more than a job, or even a craft. Great teaching, as Gilbert Highet has described it, is an art. As such, every teacher at Tempe Preparatory Academy must embrace the triad of truth, beauty, and goodness, both in the subject matter that is his or her special field, as well as in the heart of charity that must animate each relationship with a student, parent, or colleague. Teachers must not only know their subject areas. They must have a deep orientation toward sharing the fruits of their study with others, both as masters and as co-learners. They exemplify the concept of the "community of learners" that distinguishes Tempe Prep as an institution. It creates the possibility for profoundly satisfying personal and professional experience.

Teachers at Tempe Prep come from a variety of fields. Some have taught in public or private schools; others have come to Tempe Prep from jobs in industry, or have begun their professional careers at Tempe Prep after finishing college or graduate work. Traditional certification or training in educational methods is not required. Experience in similar educational settings is an asset. The most important quality for a teacher at Tempe Prep is an orientation toward true liberal education: the education that frees the human spirit by orienting all aspects of the intellect and heart toward the true, the good, and the beautiful. If you have a strong background in the humanities, sciences, or arts; if you desire to share your knowledge and love of learning with students; and if you embrace a vision of lifelong education, consider a career at Tempe Preparatory Academy.

  • Tempe Prep provides a superior, liberal arts curriculum
  • Class sizes are small.
  • Full-time teachers are given meaningful prep time
  • Most full-time teachers instruct 4 hrs per day.
  • All students take the Academy's traditional, core curriculum.
  • TPA continues to earn an "excelling" rating from the Department of Education.
  • TPA is accredited by the prestigious American Academy of Liberal Education and by the North.

To be considered for FACULTY positions, submit the following:

  • A complete Application for FACULTY Employment with an original signature. Resume must be included.
  • A copy of your valid DPS-issued fingerprint clearance card
  • Three professional letters of reference, at least one of which is from an employer for whom you have worked in the last two years OR your university placement packet
  • Unofficial transcripts. Official transcripts are required if employed
  • Other documents that would be helpful in evaluating you as a candidate for a specific position are optional.
  • Salary is dependent upon experience.

Applicants must be highly qualified in their teaching area(s), dedicated to working with teenagers, and full-time teachers must be willing to direct at least one extra-curricular activity (not necessarily athletics). Teaching experience is a plus, but is not required, nor must applicants be certified.
