Curriculum :: 7th Grade

Literature and Composition

A class focused on the basics of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Themes such as heroism and justice are encountered in Greek myths, and in stories such as Shane, The Hobbit, Little Women, The Miracle Worker, Treasure Island, and The Tempest. 

American History I

Beginning with the European discovery of the New World and the initial colonization along the Atlantic coast, students examine the development of the United States through primary source materials up to the Civil War.  Special emphasis is given to founding documents, especially the evolution of Constitutional theory and interpretation.

Pre-Algebra
A thorough review of basic computational skills, and an introduction to necessary pre-algebraic skills. Problem solving involves decimals, fractions, sets, percentages, probability, area/volume and graphs in this diverse course.

Life Science
A course which explores the plant and animal world through an investigation of anatomy, classification, basic life processes, and ecological significance of organisms. The class includes multiple projects/dissections, and a significant unit on native plants and animals.

Latin I
A review of basic English grammar, and a study of the fundamentals of Latin grammar. Students are also introduced to Roman culture, and begin to translate basic texts.
