Curriculum :: 11th Grade
Humane Letters
A Socratic seminar with a particular focus on the literature, philosophy, and history of Ancient Greece. Readings include Homer, Sophocles, Thucydides, Plato, Aristotle, Epictetus and The Old Testament.
Pre-Calculus/Calculus
A course that includes the study and complex analysis of functions, with special emphasis on trigonometric functions and conic sections. In the second semester, the course evolves into a calculus course that includes functions, limits, differential calculus, and its applications.
Physics II
A more abstract study of the mathematics behind physics and its laws employing calculus.
Drama
An introduction to the theater in which all students experience the various aspects of stage production and performance in one or both of the semester productions.
Art
Advanced drawing instruction with a corresponding study of art history.
Beginning Greek or Modern Language III
Students can choose between Beginning Greek, French III, German III or Spanish III.
German III: The aim of third year German at TPA is to develop your understanding of the language through focusing on the written works of specific German authors, while continuing with an adequate emphasis on German history and culture. Since German I and II required you to study and understand the grammar of the language, this course will apply that knowledge to chosen texts. We will utilize class time speaking only in the target language and you will be expected to share your opinions of the text, along with summaries of each of the reading assignment.
The immediate goals of the course include:
- developing greater reading skills through authentic German literature;
- fine tuning the spoken language through expression of opinion and insight;
- completing advanced essays in the foreign language;
- acquiring an even larger vocabulary;
- practicing correct pronunciation and intonation and;
- learning about Germany, Austria, and Switzerland as well as the great authors from their respective countries.
